Volume V (letters CXXV to CLIII). Jean-Baptiste de Boyer Argens, marquis d' (1704-1771) delivered his letters twice weekly to his publisher through an intermediary, Prosper Marchand. These letters were published under the guise of an Ottoman Jew writing to numerous correspondents. Immensely popular in France and England, the translations were published in book form as The Jewish Spy in 1739.
