No. 864 of 1,000 copies. Elaborate 'ex libris' of Rodney E. Soher in gilt on front board. Soher was part of the four man British bobsled team that received the silver metal in the first winter Olympics in 1924 in Chamonix (British Olympic Association). Though not directly related to sport, the volume was suggested by sportsmen who were involved in shipping. Sections on the rise of shipping, the story of the London River, the Clyde, the Mersey, Tyne and North-east Ports, Humber, Bristol channel, Southampton, Manchester Ship Canal, Passenger trade, Lloyd's, Ship-owning and insurance, propelling a cargo boat, trawling, British Merchantman at war, an index of vessels, and a 150 page section on personalities in shipping.
