Printed by order of the Secretary of the Navy, in compliance with a resolution of the Senate of the United States, of December 13, 1815. Six complete years of the register, some with annotations. Four are signed by W. S. W. (William Samuel Waithman) Ruschenberger (1807-1895) who joined the Navy's Medical Corps as Surgeon's Mate in 1826. From 1836 to 1839, he was Fleet Surgeon in the East Indies and China, in charge of the Naval Hospital in Brooklyn (1843-1847), and later served in many other positions including at Philadelphia, as well as writing a number of books on his travels. Contains extensive service information on officers: place of birth, residence, dates of entry, commission, years at sea, shore duty, how long unemployed, when last at sea, present assignment, deaths, resignations, dismissals, plus general service information including pay grades, Department organization, vessels, squadrons, stations, Naval Yards, and more.
