"We suppose it is no secret to the reading public that a Jacksonian Democrat is the nom de plume of George Sennott, Esq., whose letter to Senator Sumner attracted some attention last summer." From the Boston Courier, of February first. Signed "A Jacksonian Democrat." An attack on anti-slavery Massachusetts Governor John A. Andrew as well as a defense of Benjamin Franklin Butler (1818-1893), a crafty politician and businessman who was often sympathetic to the South and Jefferson Davis, though he did join the Union army, though also securing a lucrative contract for himself to supply woolen clothing.
