Published earlier in England as "The Coquette: and other tales and sketches in prose and verse." Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (1808-1877) was an early English feminist, social reformer, and author of fiction, poetry, and political pamphlets, whose activities after her separation from her husband led to the passage of the Custody of Infants Act 1839, the Matrimonial Causes Act 1857 and the Married Women's Property Act 1870.
