New York: n.d., 1990. 1 sheet. 44 15/16 x 32 15/16" (22.9 x 114.1 x 83.6 cm). A near fine copy, minor spotting on verso. Item #43940
Felix Gonzalez-Torres (1957–1996) was a Cuban born American artist. Using images taken from Time Magazine for this work of conceptual art, the sheet lists the names of 460 individuals killed by gunshot during the week of May 1–7, 1989, cited by name, age, city, and state, with a brief description of the circumstances of their deaths along with their images. At the MOMA where it was exhibited, it was in a stack approximately 9 inches high; and the public was encouraged to read the sheets and take them away, as they would be reprinted as the stack was depleted. Since at least 2014 it was not on view at the museum.
