Greenwich, RI: 1762. 1 sheet. 7.5 x 6 inches. Edge worn, torn at folds, two halves stitched, loss of bottom left edge, affecting a few first letters of words, lightly soiled, still good. Item #44317
May 21, 1762. Two promissory notes, one for thirty-five shillings the other for thirty-six, signed by Nathaniel Bowdish of West Greenwich Rhode Island, taken from Hezikiah Lord, and witnessed by Nathaniel Cogswell, and Samuel Stewart. Lord has signed the verso of each note to a Samuel Wright. "There appears to have been a family of Bowdish settled at East and West Greenwich, R. I., about 1750 and I am inclined to believe that they descended from Nathaniel Bowdish, jr., son of Nathaniel Bowdish, sr., of Newport," (Historical Collections of the Essex Institute vol xlviii-1912 p 338).
