Rodrigo de la Cruz (1637-1716) succeeded his father as governor of Costa Rica, and later, after conquering Talamanca, was named Marquis, though he soon tired of worldly pursuits and joined the Bethlehemite order, founded in 1656, and went on to lead it and establish hospitals in Mexico, Central America, and Peru. A scarce work. Only two shown at auction since at least 1949. OCLC locates five copies: JCB, UC Berkeley, Wellcome, Univ. Sevilla, & Gobierno Vasco.
