Dated January 14th, 1778 & June 5th, 1778. Two documents pertaining to the receipt of payment for the military service of Reuben Smith, from Charles Kellogg, Paymaster to the Militia of the State of Connecticut. Cash received of Oliver Ellsworth, Esq.

1. [Manuscript Signed] 9x 5 inches. Rec'd Hartford 14th Jan. 1778 in cash and receipts One Hundred and Sixty Pounds Eleven Shillings and Three Pence to Money of Reuben Smith for which Sum Smith gave his receipt to Oliver Elsworth Esq. at Fiskills in October last as Paymaster to the Volunteer Regiment under the Command of John Strong Capt. Commandant [signed] Charles Kellogg Paymaster to the Militia of the State of Connecticut.

2. [Manuscript Signed] 9x 7 inches. D. The State to Reuben Smith. To Chas. Kellogg, Recpt. dated January 14, 1778 for cash & recpts.to him as paymast of the Militia ---£160.11.3

Reuben Smith had also served under in Captain Nathaniel Buell's Company in Benjamin Hinman's regiment. There is a Reuben Smith listed as having served three days as a minuteman.
