Pascual Cervera y Topete (1839-1909) was admiral of the Spain's Caribbean Squadron during the Spanish-American War. Ordered to Cuba, after a two year exile and before he prepared the navy properly for battle against the United States, his fleet was destroyed at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba in 1898. This work looks to vindicate his actions and quotes from the communications that passed between himself and the Minister of the Navy. Two more editions appeared in 1900, a fourth in 1904, and an English language version in 1899.
