Formed on March of 1863, the primary object of the league was "to bind together all men of all trades and professions in a common union, to maintain the power, glory and integrity of the nation." From New York it spread rapidly across the country. Includes speeches by Gerrit Smith, John Austin Stevens, a primary founder, meeting notes, lists of delegates from around the state.
