Preston, CT: 1837-1840. 5 pp. Very good collection, faint soiling, edges on one document browned and chipped, separated at the folds, not affecting contents. Item #44229
1. [Printed Document Completed in Manuscript] Inspection Return of the 7th Company of the 1st Regiment of Light Artillery from Hampton, Sept 20th, 1837. 17 x 12 inches. 1 pp. Split and separated at the folds, browned at the edges. List 48 soldiers, with their weapons, except for the five musicians, when it lists their instruments. Not signed but lists Edwin Palmer as Captain.
2. [Autograph Manuscript Signed] The Following is a List of Articles necessary to complete the Equipage for the Field Gun of the 7th Co. in the First Battalion light Artillery in the State of Connecticut.......9 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches. 1 pp. Dated July 13, 1838 and signed Edwin Palmer Captain. Lists items plus a notes on the condition of the gun carriage.
3. [Autograph Manuscript Signed] Regimental Orders, 1st Regiment, Light Artillery Connecticut Militia, Head Quarters, Preston, July 6, 1840. 8 x 10 inches. 2 pp. Bifolium. Signed Edwin Palmer, Lieut. Col. Commanding. Notice for the officers and the third and fifth company to meet in Norwich to nominate Lieutenant Colonels for the Regiment as well as field officers.
4. [Manuscript] 1st Regiment of Light Artillery, Field Staff & Commissioned Officers, Roster. 8 x 10 inches. 1 pp. Not dated or signed but on same stationary as item 3.
Edwin Palmer (1805-1901) held many posts in the Connecticut Militia; born in Norwich he later moved to Preston and was partner in Barstow and Palmer. Offered a commission in the Civil War, he declined due to age.
