The Lancasteriana educational system of mutual teaching, founded by Joseph Lancaster, became a popular educational method in Mexico in the first half of the 19th century; but Benito Juarez instituted liberal reform with more rigorous and uniform methods, which along with increasing state control, led to the decline of the Lancasterian system. Scarce. OCLC and other sources locate only four copies: Univ. Cal. Reg, UCLA, and Univ. Texas at Austin (OCLC: 15875252) and UC Berkeley (OCLC: 213858387).
