April 7, 1932, typed letter, signed by Grace (Carley) Harriman of the Women's Committee of Manhattan, on letterhead of the City of New York Commission for the celebration of the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Birth of George Washington. Harriman writes to invite Mrs. Neergaard to become a team member in the Manhattan Division of the Patriot's Roll Call, taking place between April 21st & May 18th, to celebrate 200th Anniversary of the Birth of George Washington. She tells Neergaard that, "Because of your help, thousands of school children will receive a stimulus to patriotism from the two shrines of our celebration - the replicas of Mount Vernon and Federal Hall, and our citizens will be inspired by noble pageantry that will bring them close to the life and ideals of George Washington."

Grace Carley of Louisville, Kentucky (1873-1950) "was married to Oliver Harriman on January 28, 1891. While her husband ran a successful business as a stockbroker, Mrs. Harriman took an active interest in charity lotteries and served as president of the National Conference on Legalizing Lotteries. She was also president at one time of the Camp Fire Girls, and was a member of the Southern Women's Democratic Club" (NYHS, nyhistory.org/exhibit/mrs-oliver-harriman-jr-1873-1950)

Though not included with our document, Harriman enclosed with this letter a memo with the Roll Call's purpose and acting women members, as well as a response card.
