Large advertising poster for the literary magazine, Promethean. The original measured 16 x 10 feet, produced on twenty 40 x 32 inch sheets. De Melas was a Professor of Art at the City College of New York and a 1964 graduate who had won the Daniel Brophy Award for "the triumph of spirit and will over a major physical disability."
[With] Promethean. Vol. XVI. 1968-1969. No. 2. New York: CCNY, 1969. 10 x 10 inches. Illustrated paper wrappers with wrap-around illustration by De Melas. A reduced copy of the poster (10 x 18 inches) is bound into the magazine. Authors include: Paul Blackburn, Fielding Dawson, Gilbert Sorrentino, Robert Kelly, John Wieners, M.G. Stephens, William Bronk, Donald Phelps, and others, a number associated with the Black Mountain School.
The original work on twenty sheets was lost in a warehouse fire in the early seventies.
While OCLC locates a few copies of this issue of the magazine in contemporary poetry collections, the print is unrecorded.
