20 invoices, one illustrated, for items ranging from farm equipment, to clothing, to food, to dry goods, tea, paint, transportation, and a newspaper subscription from eighteen different vendors, mostly from Boston, for Col. John Hackett, of Hancock, Vt.
Colonel John Hackett (1787-1863) was prosperous merchant, hotel owner, farmer, owner of a Morgan Horse that sired many offspring, member of the Vermont House, and long time postmaster. He reported in 1845 his estimated crops: "Hay, one ton per acre; wheat 15 bushels; corn 35; buckwheat 30; rye and barley little grown; oats 45; potatoes 200; wool per sheep 3 lbs.; butter per cow 100 lbs per year"(p.195). He apparently like cigars, brandy, and tea.
