Whig leader & attorney John Swift (1790-1873) served as Mayor of Philadelphia for three terms (1832–1838; 1839–1841; 1845–1849). During the War of 1812, Swift had served as Captain of the second company of the Washington Guards, and was later promoted to Colonel.
Brief letter with integral address to Philadelphia Attorney Henry J Williams, Esq., wherein Swift discloses the name of the Sheriff of Bucks County, and mentions his visit to Doylestown.
