1. [Printed Requisition Completed in Manuscript] From the Treasury Department, dated February 11th, 1831, to remit payment of $3,787.64 "...in pursuance of Requisition, No. 5620 drawn by the Secretary of the Navy..." for clothing, medicine, military stores, etc., as per the order of quartermaster, E.J. Weed. Addressed to R. Smith, Esq., Cashier U.S.B. [US Bank], Washington. Signed by Amos Kendall, Auditor. [1] pp. Bifolium. 8 x 10 inches.

2. [Signed Letter] Dated January 1st, 1838, from the Post Office Department, with integral address to James Hall, Esq., Cashier at the Commercial Bank of Cincinnati, "concerning the repayment of a sum of money loaned to Messers Strader & Johnson to put their mail contract in operation." With seal.

In the early part of the 19th century, Jackson biographer & journalist Amos Kendall (1789-1869) used his media influence in support of the Democratic Party, which resulted in his becoming a prominent member of Jackson's Kitchen Cabinet. "Kendall took many of Jackson's ideas about government and national policy and refashioned them into highly polished, erudite official government statements and newspaper articles. These were then published in the Globe and other newspapers, enhancing Jackson's reputation as an intellectual. Kendall also drafted most of Jackson's five annual messages to Congress, and his statement vetoing the renewal of the charter of the Second Bank of the United States in 1832." Kendall was appointed Fourth Auditor of the United States Department of the Treasury in 1829 and Postmaster in 1835.
