Interesting account of an Ohio adventurer, Capt. Prescott Devol, formerly well known on the Ohio river, as a pilot and steamboat captain, including his part in the Harrison campaign of 1840.... Quotes from a letter he wrote on July 4, 1846 about a trip from above New Orleans, out to the Gulf of Mexico and over to the Rio Grande.
